7 topics we explored during the last Security Catalyst Office Hours session

Last Friday, a unique group of peers came together to celebrate wins, ask for help, explore topics, and figure out how to translate ideas into action.

Here are the 7 topics we covered 👇🏼

1. Why business leaders are afraid to make security decisions

People often equate security with fear, which leads to resistance and procrastination. Help people break the fear loop by focusing on the big picture.

2. Leaders leave people better off even as they lose their job

Security leaders serve their colleagues by exploring how to best assist them, hand things off cleanly, and leave folks with a strategy for the coming days.

3. Get to 70% and go… collaborate

We wait too long to get people involved, leading to wasted work and rework. Get to the 70% mark and show your work to get other people involved.

4. If we present, it’s on us to get it right

If someone doesn’t understand, it’s on us. Big presentations have no surprises. Always test what people like by giving them options. And then keep testing.

5. Helping people prep for annual reviews has many benefits

Help folks build monthly logs of their wins so they’re ready for annual reviews. Among the benefits, it’s handy to have if you suddenly need a new job.

6. Prepare before you take leave and everyone gets better

The pleasant surprise of coming back from planned leave to find updated documentation and new insights into the role.

7. Why rituals matter and how gratitude changes

As we collect a few more birthdays, we become grateful for opportunities to make choices and struggle.

Which of these topics do you want to explore further?

Have insights to contribute (go ahead, share your ideas below)?

You’re invited to join us each Friday at Noon Eastern. Look for the link in the comments below.
